Garten Arbeit, Watercolor on Paper, each 20x20 cm, 2008 - 2012
In this project, I use the Botanical Garden as my studio, in the manner of the classical "Plein Air" Painters. I work in the garden regularly at a fixed schedule. Each time I produce a small watercolor painting. While working I reflect on the idea of painting nature and its relevance today. The work brings together daily routine with the romantic idea of painting in nature. Every painting shows a detail of the garden. I arrange these paintings chronological to form a new composite garden, which includes plants from all over the world in all seasons. This construction of an ideal garden is connected with the idea of a composed ideal landscape, as it was known in the 17 and 18th century.
